P27 - Air is required for burning

 

My mom asked what do you think whether air is required for burning. I told, Yes I know, air is required for burning. I have read about it in my Grade 2. But I haven't done the experiment to check it myself. So, I decided to do the experiment with the help of my mom. 

 What you need:

• Glass
• Candle
• Match box
  

Steps:

1.  Lit the candle using matchstick.

2. Put the glass upside down straight on one candle.  I noticed that after some time the candle with glass stopped burning.

 

3. I was using the magic candle, that is why when I removed the glass from the candle, it lit again. 

 

Conclusion:

We learnt that oxygen in the air is needed for burning. 

As there are so much shortage of oxygen, we should not pollute our environment and grow more trees.
