P23 - Air has weight or Not?

Share this:

It's been long time, we both were busy in her school activities, Gymnastics and Bharatnatyam classes.  Now, the summer break started and we are back to share some interesting activities.

Today, we experimented whether the air has weight or not.

I asked her, do you think air has weight. She said no mumma, air has no weight. I said, lets confirm this with an experiment.

What you Need:
        - Two Balloons
        - One stick
        - Three rubber bands
        - Something to make a scale (we used a hanger)
        - Needle or Safety Pin

Blow the balloons so that they are of same size. Use a stick and hanger to make a scale where both the balloons are tied on each side.

I again checked if she wants to change her answer about air weight. But she had never experienced air weight so she didn't.
Now, I asked her to prick one of the balloon with the needle.

You can make out from her smile that she understood that air has weight.  When she pricked one balloon the balance changed and the scale move down to the side with balloon. She knew that the scale will move down to the heavier side. As always she liked the experiment.

To make it more clear take two things with different weight and tie it in a balance and show how the balance moves down to the side with more weight.
